Rajat Patidar Named RCB Captain Ahead of IPL 2025

Rajat Patidar, the 31-year-old middle-order batter, has been appointed as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the upcoming 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The announcement was made at an event at the KSCA on Thursday, February 13.

Following the release of Faf du Plessis, who led the team in previous seasons, RCB was without a captaincy candidate for the 2025 season. Patidar, who recently guided Madhya Pradesh to the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, is now set to become the eighth player to captain RCB.

Patidar made his IPL debut in 2021 and has been a consistent performer for RCB, scoring 799 runs in 27 matches at an impressive strike rate of 158.85. Retained for INR 11 Crore alongside Virat Kohli and Yash Dayal, Patidar was briefly released before the 2022 season but returned as a replacement player after an injury to Luvinth Sisodia. His strong performance since then has cemented his place as a key member of the team.

The leadership change marks a new direction for RCB, who have previously been captained by legends like Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. Kohli led the team from 2012 to 2021, guiding them to playoff appearances in 2015, 2020, and 2021, including a runner-up finish in 2016. Under du Plessis, RCB reached the playoffs twice between 2022 and 2024.

As Patidar takes the reins, fans eagerly await to see if he can lead RCB to their first-ever IPL title.
