Trump's 'Gold Card' Visa: A New Path to U.S. Citizenship for the Wealthy
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a new 'Gold Card' visa program that will offer wealthy foreign nationals a pathway to permanent residency and citizenship in the United States. Under this program, applicants must invest $5 million (approximately ₹435 million). This new visa will replace the 35-year-old EB-5 investor visa program, which required investors to create at least 10 jobs in U.S. businesses.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated that the 'Trump Gold Card' visa will be available within two weeks. The initiative aims to strengthen the U.S. economy, as the funds generated from this program will help reduce the national deficit. The Trump administration estimates that one million visas could be sold under this plan, generating $5 trillion in revenue.
However, this program does not include any specific job creation requirements, which was a key component of the previous EB-5 program. Instead, it focuses on attracting wealthy and successful individuals who can make a significant contribution to the U.S. economy.
